George J. Gerro
Philosophy
George believes that good faith, ethics, and empathy are the most important qualities in a lawyer or litigant. He honors his values, advising his clients accordingly. George’s focuses on the merits and only makes bona fide arguments.
Appeals
George has experience in the Los Angeles Superior Court, California Court of Appeal, and California Supreme Court.
George persuaded the California Court of Appeal, Second District, Division One, to reverse a trial court order enforcing a Delaware forum selection clause. In that appeal, George overcome the notoriously deferential “abuse of discretion” standard of review. This victory was noteworthy, since on average, only 1-in-6 appeals succeed.
Consumer Protection
George uncovered and raised awareness of BlockFi Lending LLC’s licensing violations in the State of California. Specifically, Gerro alleged that BlockFi violated its Finance Lender License by using and possessing personal property securing its loans to California consumers, in violation of California Financial Code, Section 22009. Prior to adjudication, BlockFi declared bankruptcy, a sign that its risky and unlawful business model was unsustainable.
Litigation
George demonstrates a natural talent for litigation. In just a few years, George commenced, defended, and settled many lawsuits relating to real estate sales, title, possession, co-ownership, disclosures, leases, and easements. For example, George was instrumental in obtaining coverage for a homeowners association from a major insurance company that had already denied the claim. George has knowledge of arcane civil procedure, including but not limited to: intervention, consolidation, receiverships, writs of mandate, petitions for review, temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, and public injunctive relief.
